Arguably one of the Best Sci-Fi Shows Ever Conceived
Space: Above and Beyond, from the beginning, was a great show about family, love, friendship, and war. For a science fiction show that emerged in 1995, it was well produced, rendered, and the stories were great. This show, and perhaps more because of its early known pending doom, had some of the most emotional and shocking moments in science fiction history. I am a huge fan of space-television shows, a huge fan of all Star Trek, Babylon 5, and many others but this is certainly one of my top favorites. SAAB used a common plot tool for TV shows that eventually allowed episodes with, arcs or not, to focus on individual characters and develop a focus that followed a closely nit group of people instead of just a couple. In the end and to this day, almost fifteen years later, I still feel the effects of this emotionally-great roller coaster ride of a sci-fi series. Too bad politics killed the show, but at least what was produced is now preserved forever.

Finally
I have been looking for Making Waves on DVD for about a year now. Finally found it and for a great price. As for the film, it is an independent film. When I first saw the previews, I didn't get this impression but I did not feel cheated by this. I appreciated it even more especially after learning that the lead female role is a HAM and she uses her real callsign. Making Waves as a film has strong elements of comedy, romance, and morals that the watcher can connect with. There are some interesting things about the film such as the Mir space station still being in orbit, granted this film was made in 2004, it could have been set in a time prior to Mir's demise in 2001. Other than the ham's in the movie "walking all over each other" (sometimes talking as if their radios were telephones, but only one person can practically talk at one time). Even though it annoyed me a little bit, I got over it, after all, if you've ever used a two-way radio, you may learn quickly that it is difficult to have dramatic dialog over two-way radio. Regardless of the few technical mistakes in the film, the characters were loveable, funny, cool, witty, and it was all centered around a hobby I very much enjoy, amateur radio. From the crazy Russian, to the paranoid woman, the overly cool priest, the cool American motorcycle builder, and the love birds and all of their friends off the air, these characters made the movie enjoyable. Could the acting have been a bit better? Sure, but it was a little more than bearable so that's good. Could some of the dialog have been better, maybe, but it was funny dialog and clever. Could the editing or other technical things have been touched up? Sure, but hey, it's a story, it was a good one, and I'm glad I bought it. Enjoy.

Savior is a savior
If you're looking for a film that shatters expectations of typical plots, this foreign film is one to choose. When I first saw this film, I was blown away and never forgot about it. I had long since forgotten the title but found it again and just had to buy it. A great addition to my modest DVD collection. Savior is a sad story of war, and lost love, doom, and survival. Few films ratchet you through emotional grinder as does this one but it is not a disappointment. The acting is performed well, the story is simple to understand for the viewer yet complicated for the characters. Children of Men contains similar plot to this but Savior is perhaps far closer to reality as it dealt with a real war and issues that people on all sides of the fighting suffered through. With all of that said, the soundtrack scored to the film is epic and is a pleasure to listen to. The cinematography is also stellar and in many moments of the film you will find yourself looking at the wide-angle shots of the landscape and shooting locations with wonder. I hope you enjoy this film as did I.
