Firefly: The Game, New Toys And Games
    Jul 11, 2016
    Adventure in the Big Black
I bought this game as a birthday gift for a (fellow) Firefly fan. At the party, we busted it out and played it both with people who had and had not seen the series. We all enjoyed the game. it was relatively easy to set up and learn. The gameplay isn't overly contentious, which is nice for our group, but there are opportunities to mess with other players by maneuvering a Reaver Cutter or Alliance Cruiser into other players' sectors, or hiring away their disgruntled crew members. It has a really nice pace, especially if you can convince the other players to look at the jobs and items available while waiting for their turns. You will need a fairly large table to set it up, as the board is pretty big, and it has lots of cards and counters to set out. I use business card holders to organize my cards and keep the footprint down. Something I also do for other games I play on a regular basis like Arkham Horror. They're cheap, and you can get them at Staples. They also help keep the players from spreading the decks' discard piles out like melting marshmallows, lol. This game captures the spirit of the series very well with plenty of humor and adventure. By the end of our play session, those of us who hadn't yet seen the series were already ordering the DVDs and those of us who were me were already ordering game expansions. :-)
