AKG D112: Best kick drum Mic? Uh, Yeah....
The AKG D112 microphone has a reputation as the best kick drum mic available. This reputation is both accurate and well-deserved. The D112 presents a thunderous low end, without forgetting about the mids and highs you want to hear from your kick. As to the durability of the mic, there is absolutely no way even the heaviest hitter will damage the D112. It's sturdy frame and all metal construction look the part of a strictly business kick drum mic. In summary, if you do not like the way your bass drum sounds with a D112 in front of it (yes, it should be in front it), either buy a new bass drum, learn how to tune it, or find someone who knows how to EQ a kick.
