One Of Samuel Katz's First IDF Works
Published in 1985, this is one of Samuel Katz's earliest IDF "picture books". Published as part of the Arms & Armour Press Uniforms Illustrated series the text is co-authored with Lee Russell [Katz will work with him on another IDF-themed text for Osprey Publishing Limited]. The Uniforms Illustrated series does not hide it's intentions as competition for the Osprey Publishing dominated military short-subject matter market. The difference between the Uniforms Illustrated series and Osprey's Men-At-Arms series is the Uniforms Illustrated series does not have colour plates nor all the long-winded text. It is all photographs! This particular volume contains 130 black and white and colour photographs of IDF forces "in action" from 1948 up through the invasion of Lebanon. Katz's typical no-nonsense text accompanies each photograph. The descriptions are easy to understand and pack alot of information. A number of rare photographs appear in this text [there are many that are later re-used by Katz in his various other works] including a number of images of the early IDF prototype Ephod. This is one of those great "early-80's" military books from a time when the Cold War raged, "Soldier Of Fortune" was the magazine to read, and Arnold Schwarzenegger was an action hero!

Academy Award Winner Roger Christian's account of his time on Star Wars and ALIEN
While George Lucas is considered the genius behind his 1977 Star Wars, Roger Christian received an Academy Award for his epic set decoration of the film, and he so rightly deserved it. The "look" of Star Wars, as it is seen on film, is a direct result of John Barry and Roger Christian. Christian's book recounts many stories of how he "dressed" Star Wars and another epic contribution to film, 1979's ALIEN. A great read with plenty of inside perspective into Christian's genius set decoration of Star Wars and ALIEN.
