Black or Not Black?
Zeal & Ardor are one of those rare bands that can push the envelope and stay relevant. No, this album is not your traditional "kvlt" Black Metal, but the spirit, the lyrics and at some points, the riffs are there.
Originally Black Metal was supposed to be all about Satan, and atmosphere. Simply listen to the title track, and both will appear rather quickly. Blood on the Water is another track that really pushes the whole satan thing over the top.
Now you take your black metal, throw in some really nicely put together Melodic spiritual chants and what you've got is one of the weirdest combination of sounds I've ever heard. Does it work? Hell yeah it works.
Though this is by no means a black metal classic, this is still a very good album by some dudes who know how to use their voices and play their instruments.

USBM's finest!
Gin catches you off guard from the first chord and before you know it you are encompassed in Black Meta groove with hints of folk thrown in to keep you entranced. With vocals as high and screeching as they come and lyrics that keep you interested, Gin is an album every USBM fan should give a chance. Not your typical Black Metal, but Black Metal still the same.
