Able to watch rented Blue-Rays

Included software prompts for free update but then wants user to install paid update to 'get current' was able to watch rented blue-Ray without paid update software but had plenty of nag screens. Have not tried writing any disks. The latch will only unlock when power is on, so it was only frustrating until I figured that part out (as to why I couldn't open the cover) also on my laptop it has to be plugged in with both USB ports prior to powering on the laptop
