    Venom - Cast In Stone
Venom - Love 'em or loathe 'em, they were impossible to ignore. The personnel changes & in-fighting in the late eighties & early nineties turned them into a bit of a joke, but when they reformed in '96, they proved they could still cut it, both live & in the studio. Cast In Stone is a high water mark in Venoms' career, not only for the sheer acidity & abrasiveness that the interim line-ups never had, but also because it is almost certainly the last time Cronos, Mantas & Abaddon will ever record together. This album is recommended to those of us who stood there, loud & proud, as part of Venoms' Legions and also to the new generation of Thrashers, Moshers & Nu-metal scum who wonder where it all came from.

    Abaddon - I Am Legion
This is weird. If anyone out there thinks this anything like the old Venom stuff - think again. This is a very industrial sounding album, a bit in the style of Rammstein or Nine Inch Nails. Mr Bray might be utterly giftless vocally, but when comes to percusion, programming & generally hitting things, he really shines. Not sure when this was released, but two of the eight tracks on here are also on Venoms' Cast in Stone, with Cronos making a better fist of the vocals. Like smoking, you have to persevere before you enjoy it. This album is well worth having if you're into overproduced industrial, or one of Venoms Legions. I'm glad I got it - just don't try driving with it on.
