Molskine Hard Cover 5 x 8.25 Perfect to Log Engineering & Design Details
I've used these kind of books to log engineering & design details for many years. They are small enough to conveniently carry into the field and/or staff meetings. This specific purchase was easy, valuable and cost effective. The book arrived to my home quickly and as advertised.

Palstar AT2K Antenna Tuner – Excellent Condition
I received this tuner on January 31st, 2020 in perfect condition. This tuner is approximately two years old but looks like it rolled off the assembly bench. The tuner was well packaged and arrived quickly. The price of the tuner was very reasonable.
Upon receipt, I removed the top cover of the tuner and inspected the mechanical and electrical components. The system looked brand new inside. I thoroughly cleaned the coils and roller wheel & rod with alcohol. I applied new graphite grease to the rod to ensure electrical conductivity to the roller wheel.
I operate my transceiver from (10-160) meter bands. I created a spreadsheet to log the input, output and inductor settings as these settings were a bit different from the previous tuner (Palstar AT-1500CV). I was able to tune (1:1) on a few spaced frequencies within each band.
After setting the tuner, I transmitted 1000W CW and 1300W SSB from an Ameritron AL-572 amplifier. The tuner and amplifier work great as a pair.
I utilize one (10-80) meter OCF dipole, one full length 160-meter dipole and one (10-80) meter 43’ vertical antenna. Each antenna tunes well with the Palstar AT2K. I’m glad I purchased this tuner. If you can find this style of tuner at a reasonable price, give it a shot. You may be equally pleased.
Open the tuner every so often and clean the coils. It’s simple maintenance. This tuner should last a lifetime.

Ameritron AL-572 Amplifier - Reasonable Price for 1KW Output
I purchased a used (MFG Date: May 2001) AL-572 off eBay for approximately $1K during January 2020. Documentation states that the amplifier’s rated output is 1000W CW and 1300W SSB. This should be true if all components are operational and the 572B tubes are strong.
This amplifier operates as described for me. $1K for 1KW seems reasonable. I achieve a solid 1KW CW output during tune-up and 1.3KW on SSB with approximately 95W drive. I tune for max output, "LOAD" a little heavy (1.5 notches clockwise) after tune and reduce drive power by about 5W after tuning. My scope shows linearity at these settings. The amp tunes easily and smoothly. The amp’s fan runs rather quiet and moves about 30SCFM across the tubes. Taylor 572B Tubes are available in matched quads from RF Parts and single 572B Tubes are available from DX Engineering. EHam reviews document complaints about reliable 572B tubes not being available. Perhaps this was prior to 572B Tubes provided by Taylor & DX Engineering. The amp provides the ability to change input line voltage settings to end user preference. I set my amp for 245V. It’s an easy change and process. I spent a little time to re-flow suspicious solder joints and inspected connections prior to powering up. I found one leg of a diode (D117) floating in space. This was an easy repair. My amp indicates 2.8KV on the HV setting with no load and 2.6KV when fully loaded. This is an attractive amplifier and so far, operates well. I suggest reading the manual carefully prior to operation. The ALC doesn't work too well with my Yaesu FT-1000MP MKV. Yaesu MKV operation manual (page 13) states, "ALC circuits detect Amplifier Tube Grid Current, and generate ALC voltage when excessive grid current is present, may not work well with the MARK-V FT-1000MP and other similar transceivers, as the ALC voltage may be generated because of amplifier mis-tuning not related to an excessive drive condition. With amplifiers deriving their ALC voltage in this manner, we recommend that you not connect the ALC line, and rather let the amplifier’s protection circuitry manage its ALC requirements internally”. Ameritron provides a grid overload protection, PCB (GOP-100) for the AL-572 as an upgrade for about $60 as a simple kit to install. The ALC may work great of other transceivers, but I choose not to use ALC with my rig. It’s not an issue for me.
