Let Me In (Blu-ray Disc, 2011, Widescreen, Bilingual)-Horror

    The hunger
Moody like a bleak winter's night and just as brutal. This film is a remake of the original swedish version and though pared down like its title suggests i think it bites deeper than LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. In this one bullied Owen is a sad lonely 12 year old from a broken home who's only friend in the world is the monster next door. Abby looks 12 but as an early scene makes clear shes anything but and the pile of corpses left in her wake soon draws the bead of a detective hot on the trail. Interspersed between the blood and savagery is the savage stuff that comes from two lost souls trying to find solace in each other, as painfully tender to watch as the throat slittings and immolations are. LET ME IN is a horror film alright, wonderfully acted, staged and gorgeous looking, its wintry 80's locale mirroring the cold stark reality of growing up all wrong. Live fast die young suck forever.

    Classy giant rat movie
Swell little thriller, tightly wound and pared down to a point with a lot of clever touches that let you know they cared about the end product. Gotta love those flicks that confine you to a bare minimum of settings and still make it snap and the back n forth here between Peter Weller's brownstone and office job is very claustrophobic, zoomed all in on this one guy as he quickly snaps trying to run two rat races simultaneously in the go go 80s. One is all yuppy cutthroat office politics and the other is a literal giant rodent gnawing away at Weller's sexy town-home, a palpable castle you just drink in as war breaks out between man and beast. Weller loses his sh*t quite aptly but its really the solid sense of place that does it, the cat n mouse game playing out in one vivid corner of the concrete jungle.
DVD - ZOMBIE - Lucio Fulci - Horror - New

    Rotten tacky doom
like DAWN OF THE DEAD'S smaller, slower, nastier brother if he'd been raised in the land of the giant boot. Eschewing any cute social barbs Fulci's ripoff goes straight for the jugular like Auretta Gay getting hers torn out in a glorious fountain of red...cause that's what ZOMBIE wallows in- the putrefaction and rot and ultra-violence, not plot not character and not passable dubbing. Its basically a bunch of gross scenes and the best one has the tropical dead rising in unison in an island cemetery; they brush off the sleep of centuries like putrid meat puppets called to battle, an eerie synth song playing as the spoiled funk of apocalyptic dread bites deep. Its stark and simple and makes for way better horror viewing than Romero's epic, there's no messing about just sweat and death and sand lodged up the crack of your rear. Still the best sequence I've seen in ANY zombie flick, bar none.
