Old un' but good un'...
1 of 1 found this helpful Don't be fooled by the standard issue obsession with megapixel count. The Canon 350D may "only" be 8.2 megapixels, but don't let that fool you.
This camera is capable of producing superb image quality. The only fly in the ointment being the below par standard kit lens, which doesn't do the camera justice and should be upgraded as soon as finances allow!
The dynamic range, noise control, sharpness etc are superb, with jpeg's being so impressive you would be wasting your time with RAW mode! In my opinion this is a far superior camera to the later 10mp Canon 400D,which I felt was far worse in all the image parameters already mentioned.
The layout and build quality is up to the usual high Canon standard and as an entry level into the world of SLR camera's I still don't feel you can beat it.
With the latest offerings from various manufacturers being megapixel obsessed and trying to stay ahead in the numbers game- the 350D was what it's all about-GREAT IMAGE QUALITY.
Bearing in mind what you can purchase them for second hand, the 350D is as good as it gets!

The Daddy..
For those of you, like myself, who want an all in one camera than can capture all types of photography with as minimum as fuss as possibly, the Fujifilm S100fs is as good as it gets.
With a versatile image stabilised 28-400mm lens,SLR type build quality and handling, the best noise control in its class, tiltable LCD,RAW image capture etc- it really does the lot.
You may find a slightly wider angle lens or a longer zoom and an SLR at very high iso settings will have the edge on image quality- but the compromises are very small indeed.
As far as I'm concerned the Fujifilm S100fs is "the daddy" of the bridge/superzoom game and is a genuine alternative to an SLR camera- which with this feature set would cost three times as much!!

Old School style... dated performance...?
3 of 5 found this helpful A useful all rounder- the X10 offering style- with a fast lens, good stabilizer and decent image quality.
Those looking to make LARGE prints might want to look elsewhere due to the mediocre resolution by today's standards- but good optical performance and good colour balance ( and higher DR in 6mp mode) makes the best of what it has.
If budget allowed- the X30's high-resolution viewfinder and much improved AF performance might be the way to go- but if you're in no hurry- a useful second-hand buy at sub- £150... if a fully functioning, cared for example...
