These are high quality I used them to construct a through window adapter for several coax cables.

HT to Base.
When I received my radio I went to CHIRP and programed it for the frequencies I use. The little radio sounds good it also has a very good signal. We use them around town and farm. we talk HT to base ,on average we can talk about 7 to 8 miles with no issues. The only thing is make sure the battery is fully charged before you use it for the day.
Other than that for the price they are great little radios. You won't need the software if you use CHIRP but you will need the cable.
