very nice Nikon FG 35mm manual focus SLR w/ finger grip, strap, IM

Blown away..
I purchased this while keeping in mind that it was a camera geared more towards a average consumer. I already own/owned a Nikon F3, Canon T90, Canon EOS 3, EOS 630 & 650 but this thing is just astounding. The FG meters light so well, on my test roll I intentionally shot back lit subjects and gave it a variety of other lighting situations just to find the limitations of the metering system. It never faltered once on the whole roll and I never added any sort of + or - exposure compensation either. The shutter sounds great, the film advance lever has a short throw, the body still has a very solid construction too. This camera is a just a steal. Just FYI it's tiny, more tiny than I was expecting. I'm 6' 5" with big hands, it took awhile to get used to. However, the benefit is the FG is light and compact enough to fit in any camera bag with the rest of your gear. If you want a solid, affordable, and consistent SLR that has a small footprint, this is the one.

Sigma EX 50mm f/1.4 HSM EX DG Lens for Nikon
Feb 18, 2020
Outdated but still great.
Purchased this the second time after switching from Canon to Nikon. Before doing so, however, I purchased the Tamron 45mm 1.8 VC as an upgrade. I learned that was a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, the Tamron is a great lens optically, but the autofocus is sluggish in low light, and substantially more so when you use the VC. This is a problem because you’re most likely to use the VC feature at low light conditions. Otherwise what’s the point of having it? This Sigma 50mm has no such issue, the autofocus is snappy. Even though it isn’t nearly as well corrected for Chromatic Aberration, and it’s not as sharp as the newer Tamron is at wide open apertures. The autofocus is reliable in low light, which for me outweighs the advantages the Tamron has. Optics become irrelevant when a lens fails to grab focus when you need it to. So this older lens is now in my bag again. I think it’s an incredible value.
