2002 Golf TDI - Fun, Reliable,Economical to drive/ Maintain. Join VW club
1 of 1 found this helpful Good cars for small family (5dr) and young single people (2dr or 5dr).
Great Mileage (38-45 w/ auto,45-50+ manual) Manual trans is easy + cheaper on DIY maintenance ($30/ 100K mls). **Auto goes to a mechanic every 40K mls for transmission fluid change ($200-400) **
Good fit and finish with power to run at 80+ Mph down the highway easy.
Suspension is very good, and easy to modify. It will probably need new struts, mounts , bushings once they hit 100K miles. Just replace them to get it back to stock or upgrade if you want,(IDPARTS is great for that) I would add an Addco rear anti sway bar for netural steering :-). Very economical upgrade.
**** IMPORTANT NOTE **** Verify timing belt maintenance was completed. If not take $800 of the asking price. Get a good VW indy mechanic to do it properly.
Motor Oil changes, only full synthetic 5w-30 every 8K, 10K mls max. Castrol same as VW oem, Amsoil, Rotella.
Parts can be a bit pricey. Just do some research to find the best deals. I recommend that you join a VW club (tdi club) to get all that info. It helps keep you away from the Dealerships (STEALER-SHIP)that take your money and may give poor service.
Very few recalls but that is what dealership is good for. LOL
