Doesn't charge my model

The charger is well put together and seems to be of good quality and is definitely a good value. If it worked. When I plug it into my Garmin Nuvi 2639LM/T, I get a message that says the unit cannot be charged using this cable and to use the one that came with the unit. Unfortunately, there was no AC adapter with the unit, so I assume that this Garmin is not designed to be charged via an AC adapter, only the DC charger.
