ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III VGA Cooler - nVidia & AMD, 3 Quiet 92mm PWM Fans, SLI

    Cool and Quiet
I ordered this to put on my GTX 1070. While the stock cooler worked, it was loud under load, and when idle, the fans would cycle on and off which made a really annoying sound. Installing this cooler wasn't hard at all. For me, removing the stock cooler was pretty easy. I undid seven Phillips screws and gently pried the cooler off with a plastic knife. This cooler comes with an assortment of small aluminum heatsinks and some thermal glue. I attached most of the small heatsinks to the memory chips, VRMs, and MOSFETs and let the glue cure for about an hour. Then I attached the small plastic spacers to the cooler and mounted it on my card using the included screws. With the stock cooler, my GPU would idle around 50C and would get into the low-to-mid 70s under full load while making quite a bit of noise. With this new cooler, my GPU idles in the 30s to 40s and gets into the high 50s to low 60s under load. This is with +100MHz on the core and +250MHz on the VRAM. With the fans turned all the way up (about 2000RPM), it is audible, but nowhere near as loud and whiny as the fans on the stock cooler. With my GPUs stock fan profile, this cooler is inaudible over the other fans in my system and the GPU's coil whine. If you have a GPU that is running loud, hot, or both, I'd suggest looking into getting an aftermarket cooler like this one. Just be aware that this is a heavy cooler, so getting a support bracket might be a good idea.
Intel Xeon CPU X3470 2.93GHz 8MB 2.5GTs LGA1156 Quad Core Server Processor SLBJH

Excellent Upgrade for any LGA1156 System
I ordered this CPU to replace the Core i5-650 in my Dell OptiPlex 980 DT. Updating the BIOS to at least version A16 was necessary for Xeon support on that system. This CPU is identical to the Core i7-870, but it has a better memory controller (supports 32GB of memory on the Xeon versus 16GB on the i7) and can be found for a better price. Compared to the i5-650, this Xeon is a better all-around CPU. Single threaded performance is marginally better, and multi-threaded performance is significantly better. The Xeon allows the memory to be run in a 2x8GB configuration; the i5 would always crash when booting with that configuration. The Xeon runs hotter than the i5 (being a 95W 45nm part compared to the 72W 32nm i5). In the Optiplex, the Xeon's temperature reaches the mid 70s under an all-core load, sometimes reaching into the 80s if the load is sustained for long enough. Idle temperatures are around 40C. According to HWMonitor, the Xeon's power consumption reaches 107.7W under load, and drops to 12.09W when idle. Unlike other CPUs I've used, which adjust power usage at all times based on usage, the Xeon is either idle or running at full power. This can cause temperatures to increase into the 60s under a light to moderate load. Overall, the Xeon X3470 is an excellent upgrade to any LGA1156 based system running a Core i7-860 or lower. It can be found for better prices than the i7-870 and the slightly faster Xeon X3480 and i7-880. Just be sure your power supply and cooling can handle it.
