I think you see why that engine had a special place in my "collection". It was my first Lionel "crush" (like the girl next store when I was 14 still has a special place as well). She was also born in 1953, like the 2055.

I am glad you are happy! That was an excellent buy on a great set. It just no longer was being run on my (TMCC-based) layout.

Good book, with a lot of "not generally known" information about the trials and tribulations that went into the development and launch of the fifth generation Corvette. The views of skeptics, detractors, and the fans of the C5 Corvette are all discussed.
Most books of this type are mere gushes over a car, designed to appeal to the fans of a particular model. Examples are the Leffingwell books (about the 2005 Mustang, and the "60 Years of Corvette") that do not cover any of the painful parts, and are almost advertisements for the car(s).
It is amazing that the groundbreaking engineering that went into the car happened at all, given the "design by committee" approach used by GM during this period (mid-late '80s).
The detail on the chassis, body and powerplant are also a lot more complete than I have seen anywhere else.
Stewart 2214 O I-Beam Crane Hoist Kit 15' Scale Height 10' Length

Not easy- but a good addition
The kit instructions could be a lot better. I think I put it together somewhat incorrectly, because of that. One part (the actuating lever) was not in the bag. Also you have to add either chain, or (as I did) wound cable, plus thread to simulate the rope used to lower or raise the hook.. Some parts require drilling, sanding etc. to fit.
But the end result is convincing as a nice addition to the layout.
Lionel Smoke Kit Repair Kit for Lionel 2037 2055 675
Apr 12, 2017
Works. Far less expensive to use than pellets.
Smoke Pellets no longer are sold by Lionel. New Old Stock ones are expensive- about 18 cents an application. But a 2 oz. bottle of smoke fluid can yield 300 applications for about $ 6 - or 2 cents each.
1. Remove the locomotive body.
2. Remove the cap on the smoke generator- use needlenose pliers and wiggle the cap loose. Cut the existing wires.
3. Clean out the gunk left from the smoke pellets out of the generator body, down to clean metal.
4. Use a sharp object like a needle or toothpick to clean out the tube leading to the lower part of the generator. Be sure it is clean.
5. Insert to new white disc element into the generator body.
6. Slide the plastic tubing over one of the heating unit leads. Slide the mesh tube over the heating element.
7. Bend both leads at right angles such that it forms a "U". Lead the one insulated w/ tubing through the larger hole in the cap and the ground through the other.
8. Shorten the wire lead from the E-Unit (original power wire for the smoke generator) so that the new wire has some extra length but not too mush- this wire has to not touch the loco body when re-assembled!! Solder it to the old wore.
9. Solder the uninsulated wire to a ground (I used the Smoke Generator mounting bracket)
10. Re-assemble, and test- apply 4 - 6 drops of fluid on the heating element, and (with the loco in neutral) run power up to about 1/2. It should generate smoke within about a minute. Re-install the loco body.
