One of the best
I love this tv!!!! We already have the 46xbr9 and were looking for a replacement for our bedroom. After looking at and reviewing; Samsung 6400, LG 5500, Vizio Razor, Panasonic Viera I found this 40xbr9. I just couldn't beat the price for the picture quality. My wife also likes the web enabled extras (I suggest the D-Link dap-1522 wireless bridge). Stacked up against the other tvs even though they're newer the picture quality of the xbr9 is just outstanding. The black levels seperate so that you can see the difference between someone in a black suit against a shadow. The colors don't bleed into the surrounding picture. I know the "experts" say that the benifit of 240hz is hard to discern but the smooth motion of sports and action movies without that shakey jutter seems pretty easy to discern to me. I'm a mess with it junkie, I love that I can customize just about anything on this tv. If you don't like to adjust settings yourself there are 8 different preset scene settings, including "auto" which does a good job of self adjusting to the content. There are alot of great tvs out there. I'm still not sold on the whole 3D yet (love going to the movies to watch in 3D). This tv doesn't do 3D but the picture has depth and it seems like looking out a window at real life. In addition to the great performance of this tv, I've always had great experiences with Sony's customer support even with the replacement of a previous hdtv an xbr5 (check out Sony's exchange program for their xbr line). The bottom line for me was that for less money I got the same or better quality and extras (look out for wi-fi most tvs are "ready" not installed which means you have to buy extra equiptment) and when it comes down to it I want the emphasis to be on picture quality the picture on the xbr9 rivals plasmas ;)

good start to rounding out your Alpha
My wife wanted a DSLR camera and after alot of research we chose the Sony Alpha A330. The camera is great easy to use. It didn't take long to go from just point and click to experimenting with apitures, distance, forground, background etc. The next step was to get different lens so this DT 55-200mm seemed like a good start. The new lens has opened up more picture taking than we expected getting those close up shots of faces or nature without moving physically closer so we don't loose the shot we see. Love the lens, will definately be buying more.

excellent in every way
1 of 1 found this helpful Pros: Incredible sound performance, amazing video processing
Cons: assigning imputs such as BD or SAT to hdmi allows for video imput but not audio.
Summary: I have researched Sony's es line for the last three years. I've taken the opportunity to do side by side comparisons with Sony and equal Yamaha, Denon and Marantz. There were pros and cons with each manufacture. I like Sony's products and have had nothing but exceptional service from their customer support. I have been playing with the settings of the Sony str-da5500es for the last month. I found the owners manual to be very easy to read and follow. Set up was a snap and I got rid of more than a dozen cables and switched everythng to hdmi with one hdmi output to the TV. The apm (auto phase matching) is incredible and takes the guess work out of settings for my speakers. I hooked up a vcr with composite just to see if it really would make a difference..........it did. Old vhs tapes that the kids still watch looked like dvd at 1080p. The music sound brought new life and seperation to my cd collection. I'm having fun with the shoutcast and can now listen to stations, I grew up with in other states, without having to use my computer. I now use one remote to control everything; TV, BD, SAT, Receiver, XBox. I'm not sold on all the 3D hype and did concider the newer str-da5600es but I already have an internet hub setup and I have seen this receiver allow 3D pass thru in the Vanns show room even though it's not in the specs. The bottom line for me was ease of use, ability to customize as I see fit and a company that takes care of me as a consumer. The Sony str-da5500es fits nicely into these aspects for me. I would recommend this for anyone looking for an exceptional theater experiance in their home. I haven't used the second or third zones yet. I have set up the second zone in expectation of the need for another high def connection after Christmas. If I come across any other user pros or cons I will update.
