Harmony not so smart this time.
1 of 2 found this helpful I first should say that have used Harmony remotes for years to control AV equipment and an HTPC. Harmony One worked the best for IR integration, but was tough to program and not infrequently missed a command or two. For a keyboard, I eventually settled on the Logitech K400r, after which this Smart Keyboard was patterned.
So recently I tried out the Harmony "Smart" products. These interesting devices funnel all commands via WiFi into a hub which converts them to IR commands and beams them forcefully to the AV components. I began with the Smart Remote which was much easier to set up than the Harmony One, and functioned reliably. The k400r still worked well via IR for HTPC control beyond that easily achievable with the remote, but the Smart Keyboard seemed an auspicious upgrade to achieve greater functionality, and consistency within this new system, but it was not to be.
First it was difficult to set-up. Set-up of the remote could be done with MyHarmony web based PC software, but the only option for the KB is on the cell phone app, which was considerably more cumbersome. The only device recognized by the KB's USB receiver (it comes with 2 distinct ones) was the TV. Although I have a Smart TV (not Logi's but in the general sense of the word) those functions for me are served by the HTPC. There wasn't much help online for such problems, but eventually I got it to work with the computer...sort of.
Remember the idea of achieving better integration? Well that didn't go so well either. It turns out that one generally can't use the same special command parameters for the remote and KB. For example, to expand potential codes on the remote, a short or long press can be assigned to almost any button. But on the KB one can't do a long press. Some keys might allow a Ctrl modifier but not always.
Also, it should be noted that the system can be controlled by the cell phone app, which is cool. But it too has a setup and control layout totally distinct from either the remote or the KB.
In my mind, the rationale for all of this is simplicity. Needing a crib sheet to know what to do to each device in hand to get the desired effect. And with no backlight in 2 of 3 devices, its not exactly simple in near darkness.
If Logitech would configure things so that one setup could be applied to all devices, and customization per user preference could be done on the pc or smartphone app. And if a long press could be used across the board, so to speak, a real harmony might be achieved.

A reliable watering hole...
1 of 1 found this helpful With a small vineyard, I typically need between 2 and 4 1099-misc forms each January. For years I would pick them up locally at one of the big box office supply outlets. The smallest packs were far larger than my needs and often didn't include other required components. Packets from Classykeys come complete with envelops and enough 1096's to do the deed. For a fraction of the price I get a fraction of the quantity, but it suits my needs. Every year it is carefully packed: shrinkwrapped on a sheet of cardboard before sliding into an envelop. And it reliably arrives in a few days. Although usually a meticulous shopper, I have grown complacent here and just google:

Almost a great MCE replacement for HTPC
I bought 3 of these for use with harmony remotes on HTPC installations.
These appear to be well made and were easily recognized by Win7 and Win10.
While they worked with an original RC6 MCE remote, they did not work on two installations with Harmony or the Smart Hub IR systems. The Hamony db's have 2 devices with windows mappings listed variously as Media Center PC (MCE KB, Flirc, Ortek...) and WMC SE (with an extended mapping set.) The stanard MCE devices would actuate the receivers' LED, but did nothing else. Ironically the extended mapping worked fine. I swapped out these with each other and an original MCE IR receiver, ran Showkey.exe (displays the instruction mapped to IR signal) and confirmed that the problem was this device.Unfortunately the advanced device has a few essential keys only accessible with the standard one, e.g. Esc, PgUp, PgDn.
If paired only with the original MCE Remote, however, it would appear to be fine.
