Amazing lens for Macro work if you know how to adapt it to a modern camera and shoot in manual mode
This lens is a 1970s vintage enlarger lens. The newer version has an "N" to the end of its name. There are a number of good reviews on this lens on the Internet which made me to buy it, as I needed a cheap macro set up (under 100 US dollars). There is also f4 version of this lens, which is cheaper and not as good for macro work.
The lens does not have a focusing ring. You need to use either a M42 to M42 focusing helicoid adaptor (which allows you to focus by turning round its focusing rim) or a macro focusing rail (the focusing rail moves the camera body towards and away from the object instead). I bought both, and I found macro focusing rail easier to use to get a sharp focus. The aperture should also be adjusted manually. This is a useful feature as you will lose the aperture control through the camera once an old lens such as above is mounted on to a modern day camera (mine was a Nikon D5300).
At wider apertures the lens gives beautiful bokeh. The pictures are sharp and colours were amazing and a lot better than I expected from a vintage lens. You can shoot 1:1 or 1:2 magnification macros using this lens, and by reversing the lens and adding extension tubes you can shoot even higher magnification macros.
The draw back is you lose metering and need to control everything manually. If you have basic understanding of the manual mode in a DSLR it is not difficult to use this lens at all.
To adapt this lens to a modern day Nikon you will need a M39 to M42 adaptor, and a M42 to AI Nikon F mount adaptor. If you want to reverse mount the lens then you’ll also need a M40.5 to M42 stepping up ring adaptor. All these adaptor pieces are available for only a few dollars on eBay,
See some of my test shots attached here. All photographs were shot with daylight without using the flash. I had to therefore raise the ISO to 400-800.

Recommend this camera bag
Has enough space for 2 DSLRs and several lenses including my 70-300mm zoom. Sturdy, made of good materials, not cheap looking, well padded, and stylish. Not tested if water proof (it has a rain cover inside).
