Modern Cars are Power Hungry
Have you ever noticed that the stop/start function on your car stops working for no apparent reason? That puzzled me for some time. Nearly new car, carefully driven, what could be going wrong? The answer was that mine, like most modern cars, is power hungry. The car is designed to do many miles a day every day, but it just doesn't get that sort of use. Radio, sat-nav, heating, data transmission take a heavy toll on the battery on short drives. If the charge is not sufficient some functions are taken 'off-line'. Auto stop/start is one of the first. So! For the first time in many years, I have returned to trickle-charging the battery every so often. Modern chargers like CTEK also condition the battery. This Indicator not only gives a visible indication of battery condition, it provides an easy connection to the battery charger, push fit rather that metal clips.
