Decent E-Bike conversion at a good price
4 of 4 found this helpful I bought this kit back in May and finally got it all together on my old Actionbent (2010) trike. I needed to do a bit of modification, extending electrical cables by soldering in extensions and using shrink tubing. (I was an electronics guy before retirement.)
I like bar end shifters which complicates things. So I added a thumb throttle to replace the twist grip. I had to cut the throttle to fit on the trike handlebars. Used a Dremel tool. I also like locking brake levers, parking brakes, to get in and out of the trike so I'm not using the motor cut-off brakes that come with the kit. I may put one back on in the future.
I am using a 48 volt, 14 amp hour battery with this kit.
My biggest concern is that the pedal assist system seems to add too much power when it kicks in, even at the lowest set level of PAS 1. So I pedal and coast a lot. I'm concerned about range. I'd like to be able to ride 50 miles at a lower level of assist. I'm used to a BionX system where the PAS is barely noticeable. And I could get 65 miles with a 48 volt, 8.8 amp hour battery.
I've looked at the videos on YouTube from Augustine E-Bikes on programming the SW900 LCD display/control. I've also downloaded the SW900 PDF manual.
One suggestion I've found on the 'net is that it would be nice if you could program maximum wattage levels for each PAS setting. Maybe 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 watts for each of the five PAS settings. Anyone figured this out?
Guess I'll have to fiddle around a bit.
