HAPPY TO REPLACE THE ICONIC SHEVCHENKO,
after our college library ditched our best books by/about
him. This was so untimely that I felt the need to replace
some of what we were losing, and this book is significantly inclusive.

Life-denying, intolerant piety twists the heart of Christianity
It was what I expected--a solid somewhat innovative picture,
making a lot out of a few dollars-- a contained and effective
critique of a narrow-minded and joyless ascetism in the religious
'education' of young people whose schooling is determined by a very
conservative Catholic society.
As a German teacher, I was pleased to find this film--though I'd have
to show it with considerable caution.in showing it. It's an interesting
match for a German short story I've taught.

Excellent companior piece for the documentary LITTLE RICHARD, which I bought at the same time.
Striking portraits of hampered success--->significant contributions
to our culture, musical and political.
Contemporary relevance--needed at a time when prejudices, LGBT and
otherwise, have been ginned up.
