Good intermediate-level American ESL books for adults
(Note that this review refers to the first edition. A second edition of the Stand Out series is now also available. I have not seen or used any version of Stand Out 3 other than the first edition, so I can not compare this edition to any newer one.)
I use this book to teach lower-intermediate ESL (English as a Second Language) to adults. I use it in the full first-edition series of Stand Out, from Stand Out 1 (which is low-beginning) through Stand Out 4 (high-intermediate). On the whole, the series is good for teaching real-life, general American English to adults (especially those who are living in or planning to live in North America). I assign pages in the Grammar Challenge book for homework, which we go over at the beginning of each class, and I use the textbook (along with a Stand Out audio CD, sold separately) for classroom activities. In my adult classes, the Stand Out books are what we spend the most time on. I've made my own midterm and final exams for these classes, but I based them mainly on the grammar and vocabulary presented in Stand Out.
While the Stand Out 1 and Stand Out 2 textbooks present essentially the same grammar, Stand Out 3 introduces a lot of grammar not previously taught--along with new vocabulary, of course. Also, some of the listening exercises in Stand Out 3 seem difficult for many students who have just completed Stand Out 2. This all seems a little odd and results in the transition from Stand Out 2 to Stand Out 3 to feel like a bigger jump than the one from Stand Out 1 to Stand Out 2. In particular, teaching the Pre-Unit through Chapter 1 of the Stand Out 3 textbook is a little of a drag for me, but the later chapters seem more manageable. Although it is challenging, the students I use it with--who have mostly moved up from Stand Out 2--generally get through it and even willingly continue on to Stand Out 4.
The grammar introduced in Stand Out 3 includes clauses with "because"; "to get something done"; superlative forms of adjectives; comparatives and superlatives using nouns; adverbial clauses with "before," "after," "when"; present perfect; infinitives and gerunds after verbs; gerunds/nouns after prepositions, "would rather" plus verb; possessive pronouns; comparing and contrasting ideas using "both...and...," "neither...nor...," "but" and "however."
The chapter topics are generally similar to those of the other books in the Stand Out series. They are as follows:
"Basic Communication":
Pre-unit: "Getting to Know You"
Chapter 1: "Balancing Your Life"
"Consumer Economics":
Chapter 2: "Consumer Smarts"
Chapter 3: "Housing"
"Community Resources":
Chapter 4: "Our Community"
"Health":
Chapter 5: "Health"
"Occupational Knowledge":
Chapter 6: "Getting Hired"
Chapter 7: "On the Job"
"Government and Law":
Chapter 8: "Citizens and Community"
The last chapter (Chapter 8) seems the most unique in that it covers topics not taught in the lower levels of Stand Out, and I sometimes think it is the most interesting chapter in the book, as far as topics are concerned.
Over all, I recommend using Stand Out 3 as part of the Stand Out series, for teaching general American ESL to adults. (I would not recommend using it with elementary-school-age children because the topics would not be appropriate.) To get the most out of Stand Out 3, you should also have the Stand Out 3 audio CD (also first edition, to accompany the first edition books).

Effective. Long battery life. No more shaving cream or cuts!
This is the first electric shaver I've used regularly since about 28 years ago. I got tired of getting shaving cuts, and this shaver solves that problem. You also don't need shaving cream or even water with an electric shaver. This product has a comfortable grip and a long battery life. The Long Hair Pop-up Trimmer feature serves its purpose effectively, but it is scratchy on the skin. Another downside (as I guess you might expect from a budget electric shaver) is that it is hard to get a close shave, especially on the neck. This shaver is affordable and reliable but not very efficient. If a pretty good shave is good enough for you, then you might not be disappointed with this product.

Natural, effective, tasty and inexpensive.
I ordered this product because the natural toothpaste brand I'd been buying the past few years got too expensive. I am happy with Teagrance, so I bought a second tube before running out of the first. I'll be interested if I find another flavor of this brand, but I am quite satisfied with Jasmine Tea Flavor.
