Deafening bells and whistles

I was looking for a simple. compact camera that would give me good image quality. I wanted it for discreet street shooting. But the camera is so complex and offers so many options that I have a hard time using it. If this were my only camera or my principal one, I would put in the time to learn it thoroughly. But as it is there are too many trips and traps that I fall into.
The articulated screen is a great feature, but I can't exploit it until I learn the camera better. I owned a compact Canon before, so I am familiar with the Canon interface for its Powershots, but the G12 is a whole new game.
I don't get great image quality with it; but if I knew the camera better, I might.
In sum: the camera has many features you don't expect in such a compact and inexpensive unit, but you've got to put in a lot of time and thought to access all its capacities.

A real gem
3 of 3 found this helpful This is a superb machine that gives excellent image quality. It has advanced features that you don't have to use when you first shoot. You can keep things simple and get fine results. The AF is quick and fast, and even the high ISOs yield quality images. The AE is dead on.
My only complaint is that the option wheel on the upper back is badly positioned and too easily turned. I constantly bump into it with my thumb and change the settings. I will have to put tape over it. I find it hard to figure out the uses of the multiple and changeable AF points, but I'll slowly learn. I didn't learn on my last Nikon, either.
I'm unlikely to use the movie mode, but it could be useful for some shooters. It is very sophisticated for a camera of this price and would require study and practice.
You will need time to learn all the possibilities of the D7000, but if you've used a Nikon digicam before, you will learn quickly. And the results will greatly please you.

A Beaut
The product looks new: excellent cosmetics. The camera has all the features I need in a digicam. This camera will do me for the rest of my life. The AF is very good and the image viewing on the camera back is clear and sharp.
