They Do Not Make Em like they used to
After my old Pioneer VSX-D307 from 1997 went out last month after 19 years of dominant audio service to my home audio system, I scrambled for a fix or replacement, after researching the D704S 5.1 Pioneer and finding it even more powerful and full audio sound, I made it my new pick and found a gem on ebay. Most would think why not buy brand new from the local electronics store, well after some research in store the price point to receive a comparable powered unit that "Rocks" and "Thumps" the music in my home would have cost me $700-$1000 by Rotel. The new A/V tuners by Sony, Yahmaha, Denom, Onyko, even Pioneer are just no match for how they tuned these old ones. A 125x5 is not found that makes Music sound Awesome! I purchaed for mainly ITunes Juke box style output to a 10 speaker large driver Technics and Bose speaker system. Lets just say this stereo may have even topped my old Pioneer. With Dial at 9pm it rocks! Woth dial closer to 10pm it will rattle the pictures off the wall with zero distortion, great highs and mids and sufficient clean bass. (Granted I am not using a powered subwoofer only the 10" and 15" drivers in the 3way Technics tower speakers.
I consider myself a stout audio/music connoisseur, and also use this set up as my mancave Theater system for Movies, TV, Sports and Video Playback. No dissappointents whatsoever thus far. Id actually consider buying a second one for back up. As I researched at ABT Electronics with their audiofile experts, they really do not make A/V Tuners like this anymore, unless one would like to push their price point north of $1000 without speakers.
This device has plenty of RCA inputs, and if loud music is your thing and clear movie/video playback is your second most important thing when buying this is way to go.
New units are weak for full body sounds, sure you can get up to the power level with $500 plus, and you get Bluetooth now, and you get Pandora, Spotify, etc, and HDMI inputs but I will trade all of those features for this unit that makes my 15 year old speakers in my basement sound like a music hall. My neighbors also can appreciate the sound quality. I can go on and on but In closing, no regrets, and just plain happy for what I spent. You can have your $500+ 7.1 home theater A/Vs I will take my mid 1990s manufactured Pioneers.
