DEFCON-2. The label or moniker for placing US military forces on the highest state of military alert, just one step prior to nuclear war.
I was looking for a book that would explain how the "best and brightest" people would handle the pressure of being on the edge of nuclear war. This book gives a great explanation, from Nikita Khrushchev, to JFK, to RFK, and all of the Excom group deciding how to handle the placement of soviet missiles in Cuba.
You might be enthralled to learn how these men acted under extreme pressure--some great (JFK) and Khrushchev, to the idiotic (Castro). Also, the top military advisors, from both the soviet union and the USA wanted to go to war immediately. Fortunately, JFK and Khrushchev were rational men, and nuclear war was avoided.
Interestingly enough, the soviets found the withdrawal of the missiles from Cuba a humiliating defeat, and quietly removed Khrushchev from office. Khrushchev was lucky to survive with his life, and allowed to quietly retire.
DEFCON-2 is the label for the United States military forces being placed on the highest state of military alert, the final step before declaration of war.

excellent information. great book. have read many over the years. this book is excellent for a beginner or seasoned athlete. Venuto is excellent. Definitely should be on your shelf. No wasting time here. Everything you need. Just apply it.
