I am retired through ill health, but I still like to be active. I have taken up photography just lately and I live in a beautiful part of South West Wales. Lots of Landscapes, wildlife and Birds to photograph

Canon 5D with 24-105 lens and 430EX speedlight
2 of 2 found this helpful I have been waiting sometime for a full frame DSLR that I could afford. When the MkII came out, the Mk1 dropped in price so I took the opportunity. Going from a 40D to the older 5D did loose me some of the extra features but you can't have everything. The image quality is subtly better, denser in some way and it's also nice to use EF lenses at the focal length it says on the box.
The EF 24-105 L Lens is superb and now with my EF 100-400L, I have some top of the range 'glass'.
I also had to get used to using a Speedlite Flash as the 5D does not have one built in. What a difference controllable flash is.
All in all, if you can't afford a MKII then I would highly recommend this camera. It's not the fastest but for it's price I'd say it's one of the best

Canon EF50mm f1.8 lens Mkii
This is a real value for money prime lens and although very 'plasticky' it does a good job and the images are pin sharp and contrasty. Good for low light situations with its f1.8 max aperture.
I would recommend anybody to buy this lens, at 50mm it's just about what the eye sees and it is so superior to the 18-55 kit lens.
