Great refurbished vacuum, cleans so I don't have to
Arrived in near-mint condition, the user manual had underlining from the prior owner but there was no other evidence inside the box that this unit was refurbished. The box itself is marked RoboRock Refurbished, so it clearly came straight from the manufacturer.
Setup was simple enough using the RoboRock app, and I was able to set up a weekday cleaning schedule pretty easily.
Mapping seems to be improving as the robot does its work day by day, but it got most of the details after a couple runs. Setting up rooms and blocking off areas like an end table with storage under it and a stairwell was intuitive. The robot had no trouble identifying the stairwell, but I just wanted some extra space in front so nobody could step on it accidentally when coming up the stairs.
As for cleaning, my unit vacuums every weekday and mops Monday and Friday, and I've noticed the floors (all laminate) are far cleaner than I could get them with a broom and dustpan like I had been doing before, and I can trust it to run while I'm out of the house. My carpet doormat and areas around the shoe rack aren't perfect, but those areas get dirty quickly enough anyway that it's not a concern for my use case.
I run the vacuum on medium power and it's quiet when I'm downstairs, though the dock emptying vacuum is rather loud for the 10 or so seconds that it runs at the end of a clean.
For speed, my vacuum takes about a half hour to clean my 33m^2 floor plan, with or without the mopping enabled. That's not especially fast, but it does a thorough job and is completely hands-off so it still frees up time in my day.
I can't speak to the long term durability as I've only had mine for a week or so, but everything seems sturdy and the app has running clocks that keep track of when parts need replaced.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the product, and coming home from work to a clean house despite having three roommates more than justified the cost of a refurbished unit. Not sure I'd pay full price for a unit like this, but around $500 it's a great value.
If you want to decorate your vacuum with a little hat like I did, do be sure to put the hat above the lidar sensor so you don't obstruct its view.
