Excellent
The "Epic of Gilgamesh" is a compelling yet long-neglected work about a fundamental human dilemma: death, after the most noteworthy of achievements. In the "Iliad", Akilleos wants fame even though he knows he will become a shade. Gilgamesh, though, wants to entirely avoid death, and he learns that he can't. And so, rather like Akilleos, he falls back on the fame that he will leave, although he has to learn this, while Akilleos already knows it.
George's translation is wonderful, and includes a great deal of new scholarship in both recent discoveries and the revised interpretations these discoveries allow.
