A strong tribute to the genius of Lowell George
what a fun recording ! It displays some of Lowell Georges genius through a variety of artists. Only a few efforts disappoint , most notably the usually steady Taj Mahal's version of "Feats don't fail me now". Bonnie Raitt and J D Souther stand out on the early tracks.. and Jackson Browne sings a lesser tune like he wrote it. One of my favorites , "Long distance love" , sung by Keisuke Kuwata and the legendary Mary Clayton. makes me want to hear more of him. "Straight from the heart" sounds a touch too country commercial, but "Two trains" rides directly through New Orleans with two Crescent City legends. While the second half of the album is decidedly uneven ,it has been a joy to play and replay this recording.
