Excellent Implementation of a Projection Alarm Clock
I purchased this projection alarm clock to replace an earlier La Crosse version that I had been using reliably for numerous years: The remote sensor-to-clock connection failed to work (so no remote outdoor temperature could be seen). I could not determine if the clock or the sensor was the issue, so I decided to just buy a new clock rather risk buying a replacement sensor for the older clock, just to find out it was the base station that was the problem. The new clock worked the same as the previous clock, with some improvements - (1) Clock setup is now much easier; (2) The backlight and projection intensities now have different levels of intensities (4 for the clock; 2 for the projection light); and (3) There is now the capability to auto-dim/ re-light the display based on programmed hours during the day. Base station connection to both Atomic Time and the remote sensor occurred without issue; and both connections been maintained without the need for a re-set since I first set them up (several weeks now). I mounted the outside temperature to the outside of my house sensor in an acrylic waterproof enclosure, about twenty feet from the base-station next to my bed, and any interference from the house structure or the sensor enclosure has shown to be a problem. I am thoroughly satisfied with the performance of the clock so far. The clock and projection displays are excellent, and all performance parameters have worked as designed since initial setup.
Only two minor shortcomings so far: (1) Auto-dim setup needs some fine tuning - (a) When the clock display dims, it automatically goes to the dimmest setting; there should be a setting for the backlight to turn off altogether. (b) When the backlight turns back on, it automatically goes to the highest setting; one should be able set program one of the intermediate intensities instead. Finally, (c) Auto-dim time settings are only for whole hours; being able to program times on the 1/4 hour would be better. And (2), the rotational placement of the projection display is not exactly 360 degrees, so if you want the projection to display in a certain position (on the ceiling or wall), you might have to physically reposition the cock itself in addition to rotating the projection display.
My previous La Crosses projection alarm clock worked great for many years, and was worth the cost, and this new version appears to be working just as well. I do recommend this projection alarm clock, and would have no problem purchasing another, if needed.
