Loom: A Comparison of EGA and CD-ROM Releases
While it is considered to be a game that is short in length, Loom makes up for its brevity with its beautiful artwork and storyline. I remember playing the EGA version years ago and listening to the Adlib soundtrack while the characters spoke in text, and I was enamored by the work they did on the villainous character Chaos, who I must admit was too scary for children's eyes, yet necessary to tie all the elements of the story together. The ending of the game gave room for a possible sequel, but I won't get into details of that as I don't want to spoil the story. The CD-ROM version of Loom, which is the second version I played, is a full voice talkie and 256-color VGA experience, and it comes with a 30-minute audio drama on CD-ROM as well! There are a few differences in the EGA and CD-ROM version with regards to artwork and choice of dialogue. Personally, if you want the experience of hearing speech from the characters with a recorded orchestra rather than Adlib music, then go with the CD-ROM version.
