A Must Read For Aerospace and Cold War Technology and History Buffs
The "Titan II Handbook" is an exceptionally well-illustrated and always interesting look into the design, construction and operation of a Titan II ICBM and its launch complex. As is well shown in the book these sites were mind-boggling in so many ways, from the enormous amount of re-bar and steel used in the silo and launch control center, to some of the puzzling gaps in the hardening of the facility. More than just a recitation of technical details the book also covers the history of the Titan II's deployment, day-to day operations, what would transpire should the crew be required to launch, as well as afterwards. Large fold-out blueprints of the Titan II and the launch complex are icing on the cake. This book captures and preserves the details of a sobering collection of technologies and makes more real their whole existence and the thinking that went into the balance of power in the Cold War era.
