Niche As It Gets
If you’re looking to add this to your DS collection, chances are you’re either a fan of director Suda51 (like me) or a hardcore collector. Either way, what you get for your buck is a very ugly port of a cult PS2 classic that had previously never been released outside of Japan. The story, an unconventional and quirky affair in which “searcher” Sumio Mondo is tasked with investigating a bomb threat on scenic Lospass Island, is the only real reason to give Flower, Sun and Rain a shot. Gameplay consists of traversing the various locations on Lospass Island, solving puzzles and inputting the answer as a sequence number. It’s unique for sure, but since the solutions to the various puzzles are always the same on each play through, there’s very little to encourage replay value. A very specific game for a very specific type of person, anyone with a casual interest would be best off watching a video walkthrough instead.
