    AXA35 for Turntable
I bought this amp for turntable use and CD. My current setup is on Polk RTA 11t, Yamaha CDC changer and a U Turn Orbit with Ortofon OM5e cartridge. I don’t blast my music. That said, i rarely ever need more power than 30w/ch. The sound reminds me of the NAD 3020 and 304 I used to own. I mention the following to best describe the sound. The Polk 11t are still using original tweeters and the speaker’s sound character is like a vintage receiver’s “loudness contour”. That can make the Polk a little distant, and there’s that notorious 10KHz peak, but it’s still a much preferred sound to my ears. The Cambridge AXA35 brings forward a just right midrange balance. Comparing it directly to a Yamaha RXV-2400 THX receiver, on the same speakers, the Yamaha seems to have a more impressive robust bass, yet the Cambridge just sounds more “buttery-creamy” and if that is a bizarre analysis, it is like the best bowl of clam chowder. You don’t forget it and all others will be compared to it. Again humor me regarding the Polk RTA 11t as they have survived many possible speaker replacements—Paradigm 5se mk3, Boston T830, Infinity Kappa 8.1… and more. The Polk never sounded better as it does on the Cambridge. I wish I could try the other speakers on the AXA35. I do have the Magnepan LRS in another room, which I am eager to try on the AXA35. I love this kind of affordable high-end product for us middle-class audiophiles.
