Good budget controller
For the money, it has a lot of functions and dedicated controllers, but what it lacks is an adequate display. Assigning functions to the controllers involves tapping the keys on the keyboard, and you need the manual to see which key does what. You could argue that after you've used it for a while, you'll memorize the various functions - for example, "Control Assign (CC)" and "MIDI Channel Assign (Ch)" are assigned via keys C1 and D1 respectively.
But since you can create/store 5 user presets for each set of controls, be prepared to make a note of things if you plan on doing a lot of MIDI CC assigning - the 3 digit display won't help you much. Still, lots of keyboards use this type of cost-saving system, so it may not be an issue for you.
I use mine with Sonar Professional on Windows 8.1. Setup was no problem. I was up and running in minutes.
The DAW integration works up to a point. One important issue I am yet to resolve is sending controller messages via multiple MIDI ports. So far, I have only been able to use DAW integration on 16 MIDI channels TOTAL. The LX49 (or perhaps Sonar Pro) could not "see" that I was using more than one MIDI in/out. So, if you use more than one MIDI port, you have to be sure that no two devices use the same channel. For example, if you use channel 10 for percussion on device A, you have to use a different channel for percussion on device B, even if it's connected via a different MIDI port. This may be a Sonar Pro issue, so I'll update this review if I resolve it.
(Note: Inputting data - like laying down tracks, recording filter sweeps, panning etc - across multiple MIDI ports isn't an issue. Only when using the DAW integration for MIDI mixing and control was this a problem.)
The LX49 is lightweight, yet feels pretty solidly built. Key action is ok, synth-like. If you want a piano feel, get a different controller. I have not used the bundled Studio One software.
Overall, I like this little controller. For the price, you can't really go wrong. My previous controller lasted for more than 10 years. Hope this one is a sturdy!

If you love playing synths - buy this!
Best, new bang-for-buck mono for synth players! Really nice action and feel to the controls. Sound is insanely good! MIDI is basic, sequencer needs various cryptic key presses to edit, but for $300 I'm certainly not complaining.

Korg Wavestate
The Korg Wavestate is much more than a reincarnated Wavestation. The programming options are mind boggling, but the UI is thoughtfully designed with many essential knobs right there on the front panel. Very musical FX, great sounding filters, and numerous syncing and modulation options throughout the whole synth. What's not to love!?
