Buyer Beware -- Stay Away From 5.4 Ford Engines!
1 of 1 found this helpful Unfortunately, in FORD's attempt to, I suppose, build a better engine (5.4 with three valves), they are unwilling to stand behind this engine when it became clear that it has fatal and expensive DEFECTS: (1) The 100,000 mile spark plugs are well known for breaking off during replacement. (2) They have attempted to make a CAM PHASER which, in my understanding, has something to do with advancing and retarding timing. It has become apparent that they have miserably failed in their attempt, and there is no replacement engine. FORD will rebuild yours or offer you a remanufactured engine for just shy of $7000. Remember, this if for a truck only five years old that had a price tag of $30,000! (3)A few years ago, engines came with one COIL at a cost of about $15-$20. Now they have 8 coils at a cost of $115 apiece.
