Marion Davies - One of the Best Actresses of Motion Pictures
I think many (including Orson Welles with nonsense Citizen Kane depiction)) overlooked Marion Davies (born 1897) - great number of silent films before first talkie Marianne 1929 then I had to watch Operator 13 - I think she emulated earlier Stage Actresses like Sarah Barnhardt - and later 30s 40's even emulated Marion. I saw not long ago Christmas Movie with Alicia Witt impersonating a male Santa - and thought of Davies in Marianne - Davies mimics & impersonates in Maryanne "Maurice C & Barnhardt." She acts, sings, overcame a studder for talkies, and in Operator 13 she impersonates as a spy in two roles in the same movie. I now put Davies at the top of the list among my favorites of my Dad's Generation Barbara Stanwyck (Stella Dallas), JenniferJones (of Portrait of Jenny), Olivia de Havilland (Snake Pit), Danna Durbin, and Elinor Powell I have 4 signed photos now - just received one with Marion playing a Harp - Sepia Brownish & Yellowish - and I found so many variations of signatures and settled on this one as was similar also to decades later certified ones - and just days ago saw silent Movie LIttle Ole NY - saw scene in Ireland before she came to America playing the Harp in identical scene so I was able to date photo as 1923 - some years earlier than first thought when I bought photo. Marion Davies - one of the best, and a compassionate woman who treated all so well no matter the person. Not like crazy politics of today. DVD of both Davies movies indicated above played well on my Dell Laptop.
