1 of 1 found this helpful 4 out of 5. More on that in a minute. This radio has some of the cleanest, clearest TR/RX audio I have heard from a mobile. The microphone is crisp and clear. Receive audio is loud and has punch. You can also use the speaker built into the handset. But it does not get as loud. The display is color with lots of information, albeit a little small. But as you can see, the radio is not much larger than the hand mic. The 25 watts punches through in most usage scenarios. It has 3 true power levels. Do yourself the favor and get the programming cable to use with the software when you order it. There are a few things "out of the box" you may want to change. For instance, as you can see there is only one knob, and it defaults to change channels, not do volume. But the microphone already has channel up/dwn built in. If you want to change that default behavior, and make the knob work volume, you will need the software. You cannot change that from the onboard menu. Manual programming is actually pretty easy, once you learn it, just like any other radio. Many of the menus and operation I found to be fairly intuitive having used several different radio brands. About that 5th star... This radio does not transmit DTMF from the mic. So if you need DTMF for repeater management, or if your favorite repeater has DTMF "toys" that you utilize, then this radio is probably not a good fit. Otherwise this radio has very good power and audio, in a compact configuration, with a really nice display, at a great price.

Great power supply, but noisy on HF
3 of 3 found this helpful Yes, you can use this to power ham gear, but I would stick with VHF/UHF. There are lots of birdies if you try to use this as a supply for your HF radios. I will try some ferrite lumps to filter as soon as I have an opportunity. Voltage was easy to adjust. The fan can be a little noisy. So mount it away from where you use the radio. It is not horrible, but you probably do not want it stacked right with your radio. Pulling 100 watts on an HF radio, voltage only drops about .5 volts. As an experiment to see if a supply like this could work in a pinch, I would say yes. It will become a part of my "go" kit so I do not have to tow my 40 lb Astron power supply when I go camping, field day, community service, etc.

Case does not fit. DOA.
0 of 1 found this helpful I would be using this one with my Echo Dot. But it appears it is DOA. The case does not fit. The top holes are about 1/16" or a few mm off to the left. So the posts and control buttons do not fit properly. You can force it, but the control buttons will all be leaning to the left. So close. Notice the product pictures in the listing do not show it assembled. That should have been a hint right there. The heat sink is not properly attached. It came that way in the bag (no shipping box). I do appreciate the included bare wire to coaxial adapter for the power and the magnetic feet. Nice touch. There was no screwdriver as shown in the pictures. If they fix the laser cut top (and not ship dead ones) this would be a home run. Otherwise, this is just sloppy. It is one of those things were you are like "wow!, and then in a moment the whole experience is ruined because somebody couldn't bother to measure twice and cut once.
