Best lap desk out there right now
I last owned a lap desk sometime in the 1990s, maybe early aughts. They’ve definitely improved! Back then they were reinforced cardboard tops with beanbags underneath, and they were a lot less expensive. When looking for one recently, since I do a lot of work from my tablet, I found fewer options, but this one stood out for features and appearance.
I ordered another one first, not this brand, and returned it for the terribly itchy fabric and painfully firm wrist rest. Then a friend told me about this one, and I gave it a try. Wrist rest was a must for me, limiting buying options; it’s firm, too, but curves to fit the wrist better, so it’s not uncomfortable. Good fabric that stays cool. Good support pillow made of sturdy foam that won’t bunch or leak like the old beanbag ones. The top looks nice, though it’s laminate over some kind of cheap wood, made to look fancier than what it is. Doesn’t matter; it’s going to hold up better to cleaning that way. I haven’t tried the lamp—didn’t need that part—but I like the big tablet slot and the phone slot on sides w mouse pad. How cool that it’s made for either a lefty or a righty to be happy! Overall, very pleased.
Why only four stars, then? Heavy. When it doesn’t have a solid piece of wood for the top, more likely a slab of plywood or mdf under the veneer, I’m surprised by how hefty it is to pick up and move, and not in a good way for me. But it’s well made, has a lot of nice features, and all in all, I can recommend it enthusiastically to those who are working from home and using a tablet or laptop as primary computer. Big enough for my 12.1 inch iPad Pro, even the slot (many others aren’t), and big enough for a 17 inch laptop, esp since it has the side pullout for your mouse if you use one.

Best toolbox of its kind, very sturdy even when loaded
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an expensive, but high quality, toolbox. Has a higher weight rating than most, 75 lbs. Very solidly constructed, should last forever unless it sits out in the open, in the back of your truck day and night (nature is a harsh master, will eventually weaken plastics, even high quality ones). If it has to live there, cover it with a tarp and that will help.
Water resistant, not waterproof per the mfr; it should stand up to rain, but not immersion. I would have given five stars, but I’m using it as part of the modular PACKOUT system, and when it’s weighted down by tools, it’s a bit difficult sometimes for me to remove it from the rolling toolbox below, just because of the mechanism. That being said, it’s very secure when being transported as part of the stack!
So, four stars, but I’d give 4.5 if possible. And I bought another one of the same kind, so that should tell you, this is a great box. The cost is a bummer, but the quality makes it something of an investment, something that will hold up over time.
