    The Wolfen

    Wolfen Review
This book is over 30 years old, so I'm not terribly concerned about spoilers. Over all, I enjoyed the story. However it's quite dated in several aspects; extreme prejudice toward female cops, New York City being a major cesspool of corruption and violence - honestly, check out more recent stats - New York is the safest major city in the United States now! The writing is pretty good, Striber is able to keep the pace going, but it seemed like he wanted to write more than one book here. Too many backstories that simple didn't matter. I hate to call it fluff, because I think he really wanted it to be part of the story, but I don't really care that the heroine's cop-husband is grafting an illegal casino for a little extra money to pay his dad's Old Folks Home bills, because he didn't make enough money driving a city bus all those years and only was making $177 as pension. Way too much info for a secondary character's secondary character. And all the drama come about from a situation that could have been fairly easily solved - either the Wolfen, or the two detectives, could have simply left town. The entire book plays like a game of cat and mouse, the two armed detectives are afraid of being killed by advanced, intelligent wolf-beings, The Wolfen (Canis Lupus Sapien) - the wolfen are afraid that they're going to be exposed and have humanity be aware of them for the first time en masse in 10,000 years, so figure they need to kill the detectives. Had the humans simply moved to a different city they'd have been perfectly safe. The wolfen aren't advanced enough to follow them to, say, California. Same can be said of the Wolfen; they knew things were spiraling and they were about to be exposed - there were only 8 living in the city. Move to Phili, or DC, or Hell, Toronto - they'd be perfectly safe and well-hidden and at most New York would have had a couple weird dog murders to write about in the papers. As said, I still enjoyed the story, just some nit-picking. The story is nothing like the movie however. Not sure which I liked better, or worse.

    Books Of Blood #3
I recently ran across the 80's movie "RawHead Rex" - horrendously great! Thought I'd give the short-story a try. Found it on Ebay for a great price, enjoyed the story, then read through the rest of the stories in one sitting. Recommended if you like your Horror with a side of cheese.

    Great Physics 101
This is a great introduction to physics book. The author explains the basics of physics as it effects real life. Very interesting and fun to read.
