    Professional grade slide/negative scanner
I had owned a Nikon LS-40 for about seven years. When it needed servicing, Nikon gave me a quote which was vague on details other than the price. I was able to obtain a used, but refurbished, LS-2000 for less than the price of refurbishing the LS-40. If my experience with the LS-40 carries forward to the LS-2000, it should provide a number of years of service. Unlike the LS-40, which uses a USB interface, the LS-2000 uses a SCSI interface. The SCSI interface is less user-friendly than USB, so make sure you get good directions before trying to install it. Also, unlike a USB-device (which can be turned on at any time), you must plan ahead and have the LS-2000 turned on before the computer is booted up, or the SCSi card won't detect it. A standard scan takes about a minute. The 16-times multiscan repeats the scan from 16 different angles, allowing the software to detect some surface defects on the slide/negative at a cost of taking roughly 8 minutes to complete the process. I have many slides taken using Kodachrome 25 film, which for many years provided the best detail amongst 35mm films. Comparing the original slides to the scans from the LS-2000 shows that the LS-2000 picks up all the detail in the original (including barely readable print) so I am confident that these scans are true copies of the originals. Also, unlike a flatbed scanner, this scanner doesn't seem to have distorting/dust-catching glass between the slide and the detector, so I found absolutely no scanner-caused artifacts in the scanned image.

    Well worth the price
I purchased this lens because I couldn't take some pictures that I could see in my mind, because I couldn't get quite far enough away to fit the entire picture in my viewfinder with my 18mm-55mm lens. My first alternative was to add a 0.42 adapter to the front of my 18mm-55mm lens- an adptor that would essentially double the area coveredby the picture. That basically worked for objects in the middle of the picture, but the far edges were out of focus ... and if my interest were in the center only, then I wouldn't have been going through this exercise! Using this lens, my picture covers roughly the same area as the 18mm-55mm + adapter did, but the picture is uniformly in focus.

    Good Lens
This is a good lens, but my experience - and the experience of others - does cause me to question how long the focusing will function.
