A vivid and exciting account
Dalrymple tells the story of the 19th century Afghan wars in an exciting way, introducing the people most closely concerned with sympathy and detail. The horrors of the retreat and the determination of the Afghan people to rid their country of a foreign army had been forgotten by 20th century Russia and Britain whose attempts to control the area met much the same fate. We seem to have learnt nothing by our mistakes.
Dalrymple's portraits of several individual UK people who spoke the language and indentified with and integrated themselves into Afghani society are sympathetically drawn.

Delicious and very good for you in small pieces
So difficult to get and very good value when found on Ebay. It is all too easy to eat the lot in one go but it is possible!

Essential for Grade V Theory preparation
These were bought for a grandson to prepare for his Grade V exam. I hope to see him soon to go through some of his answers.
