A tool to stop students from asking questions
1 of 2 found this helpful These devices are becoming more and more popular in university classrooms. They allow professors to take attendance and give quizzes fast and easily, especially in large classrooms.
That said, the nature of these things allows for cheating and decreases the involvement of students in a class. They replace discussion and expressions of interest by students. Overall, I believe that these and all other types of 'Classroom Assistants' are just another way that the Business of Education is taking over. They are another financial burden for students, further spreading the gap of those who can afford a higher education and those who can't. Furthermore, the use of devices like this, reduce the need for classroom aids and teaching assistants which are fundamental positions in a university.
So all in all, if you must take a class in which a professor says you must have one. Either borrow one from a friend not in that class, or buy it used and make sure to tell your Prof he/she is a sellout. Thanks.
