Smiths Medical Medfusion 3500 Syringe Pump
    May 15, 2017
Solid infusion pump with lots of features
I have used numerous infusion pumps in my practice, and the Medfusion 3500 is my favorite. It is highly customizable and handles a wide range of syringes and medications. The pharmguard can be programmed and catches errors and dosing limits. In addition there is a large library of programming. I also enjoy the anesthesia settings that allow override of the preset limits. These pumps are work horses and in my opinion outperform the Baxter InfusOR and AS50 for the reasons above. It is particularly useful when working with both adult and pediatric patients, as they syringe sizes are adaptable unlike the InfusOR. (Granted I have seen many people use the InfusOR without the proper size syringe, which affects the dose delivered.) Great pumps for use in anesthesia.
2225 Plano Trauma Bag, Orange, Lockable Zippers 911100

    Solid Construction, great adaptability
The Plano 2225 Trauma Bag is a well built medium to large sized EMS bag. It is highly configurable for the specific kit that you need. The zippers and handles all feel substantial with what appears to be ballistic grade plastic. I have owned several different brands of EMS bags for my practice, and Plano stands out for it's solid construction and for allowing the user to customize to his or her preference. There are some other great bags out there with lots more organizational features, but I find that sometimes less is more. What I mean by this is that it can be frustrating when a certain medical item is back ordered or discontinued and you replace it with something else that meets your needs. You go to your kit and then realize it doesn't fit, or you need to rearrange everything to get item x to fit in a different elastic loop. Having said that, you might run into that same issue with the orange plano boxes labeled with the 3000 series. But like any plano box, they have those little plastic tabs to reorganize. The only other comment I can offer to EMS and medical users is that you won't find all the modules prepackaged for this bag. This can be good for some, bad for others. I like this for my Trauma Bag. However, some people may prefer a more standard ALS bag or to pack it with statpacks, etc. Overall, Plano does a great job. I regard this bag as highly as my old go to Ferno. Let's see if it holds up as well as it seems after a few years out in the field.
