Look For A Star / A Swingin' Safari - Vaughn, Billy (CD

In the early sixties,instrumental music had a special place in the American charts.Among the several good orchestras of that period, Billy Vaughn was one of the most sucessful. His winning formula was based in having a group of fine studio musicians (from Dot Records) and wisefully choosing the song material. His trademark was the alto saxophone solo. " Look for a Star " is an 1960 release and became nº 5 in the American charts . The title song was a theme from the movie "Circus of Horrors" and became a great international hit .It is simply one of the most beautiful orchestral romantic themes ever written. The whole record is very melodical and relaxing.It contains great movie hits ( Theme from The Apartment, Because They're Young ) , popular hit songs ( Anita Bryant's Paper Roses ) and even a gospel song (Just a Closer Walk whit Thee ). By listening to it one really travels to a star. " A Swingin' Safari" is an 1962 release .The title song was written by Bert Kaempfert but became a hit for Billy Vaughn . The record has the same qualities of the previous one . It only contains some more "happy" tunes(A Swingin Safari , Sunday in Madrid),When The Saints Go Marching In) and also a jazz theme(Blue Flame ) . It also contains very nice hit songs ( The Chordettes " Born to be with You " and Elvis Presley's A Fool Such As I ). The quality of recording is excellent ,deserving a special mention.It gives us an unique opportunity of listening to the full Billy Vaughn Orchestra sound ,more completely now than at the time of the original release .I fully recomended it.
