A page turner!
A great addition to my historic disaster books. When reading this kind of material, I can't help but picture those involved in contemporary settings. The pictures of the fire show the woefully inadequate equipment that arrived too late to do much of anything. It would have been very helpful to show the mode of dress for attending the theater in the year 1903, even for an afternoon matinee. Those who could leave their seats we impeded by each other and by their own winter dress wear. Each chapter starts out with the fire safety requirements that were law at the time, and that were ignored in the interest of getting this marvelous facility OPEN in time for holiday attendance. It's amazing the number of elements that occurred in sequence--the perfect combination to snuff out 600+ lives, many in combination with other family members. On the back cover, there's part of a review that states no one was ever held accountable for the disaster--not the architect, not the owners, not the operators--NO ONE. From my interest in (Chicago) disasters, it appears it was as corrupt back then as it is today. Money talks and burns/asphyxiates hundreds alive and walks away.

Brainerd plates' quality rocks!
I was never able to find a triplex Brainerd switchplate to match the dozens I'd already purchased. I picked up one at Lowe's--same finish but different brand. While all the Brainerd plates look like new, that other one started wearing within the year. Now, with some other small improvements, I finally broke down and bought a Brainerd triplex as close as I could find. It's close--not exact by I look forward to many years of my oil rubbed bronze looking great.
