21st Century Engineering & Wise Design
This is a well-made product with 21st century engineering to make it as safe as possible. Features include a locking plug (push in, rotate to lock), fast and easy access to the collet for changing bits, and both a pistol grip base and a plunge router base as part of the whole package. I think it's a good buy, and I trust the DeWalt name.
I bought my last router nearly 40 years ago. I worried a new router of good quality would bankrupt me, but now I wish I had bought this much sooner. It has a good balance, sure start, and sensible safety features.
It includes an extra subbase plate in clear plastic (maybe Lexan? Acrylic?) for switching to larger diameter bits. To accomplish this, a cone is included to help center the larger diameter subbase. That keeps the newly installed base centered so the base and bit line up correctly. Changeover is only four star-drive screws.
This is a beefy boy for its price, with plenty of power. No chatter, no twisting out of your hand on starting, no weird whining, just quick startup and a steady whirrrr. (Wear hearing protection and safety goggles and don't sue me.) I'm pairing it with Bosch bits, which I like very much. Overall a wisely made and sturdy woodworking machine.
