It adapts a sewing machine built for German use to American use. The on/off switch is needed because it produces heat, wasting energy while not used.

Very good watch has a few drawbacks.

Pros: The watch looks good and is nicely finished. The link pins do not fall out like on Seikos. The sapphire watch glass is very scratch proof. The dial is actually larger than it appears to be in the ads. Cons: The day/date display is recessed so deep that not enough light reaches it make it readable half of the time. The powered light that lights the face does not reach the day/date display. The link pins are prevented from falling out by a tiny spring pin that goes around each one. If you lose a spring pin when changing a link pin, I do not know where you would find a replacement. Regular exposure to bright sunlight is required for the solar cell to keep the battery charged. The link pin at one end of the clasp can be moved to fine adjust the length of the bracelet. But it can only be moved about 1/5th the length that adding or removing a link changes it.
