A Guide to the Threefold Lotus Sutra
A Guide to the Threefold Lotus Sutra by Nikkyo Niwano has been and is one of the best companion books to the Lotus Sutra I have read. It is concise, and easy to read. The language flows, giving practical insight and illumination into one of the most treasured scriptures of Mahayana Buddhism. The Threefold Lotus Sutra itself is an important scripture in that it contains the opening "The Sutra of Innumerable Meanings", and the closing sutra, "The Sutra of Meditation on the Bodhisattva Universal Virtue", all in one volume. That being said, however, I have yet to find a truly satisfying english translation of the Lotus Sutra. The Senchu Murano translation is very good, but the Kato translation doesn't do the Sutra justice. I can only hope that Thomas Cleary, who has done the Dharmarealm an incredible service with his awe inspiring translation of the "Flower Ornament Scripture", will turn his talent to a rendering of The Lotus Sutra. The Niwano "Guide" would be a fitting companion to such a work.

I have always liked Stereolab. They have a timeless element, and I like what is sung. Nuff said.
